What is the purpose of the law? Read Romans 7:7-8
A. What is God’s
law concerning “murder”:
Exodus 30:13, “You
shall not murder.”
Numbers 35: 30. Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death as a murderer only on
the testimony of witnesses. But no one is to be put to death on the testimony
of only one witness.31 “‘Do not accept a ransom for
the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. They are to be put to death. B. Jesus provided the Pharisee and Scribe
application of Murder in 5:21
1. What are the similarities and differences of God’s law and the
application provided by the Pharisees and Scribes?
2. What specific action/penalty was determined?
3. Read Mark 10: 17-27. Why was the “ruler” initially pleased with
himself?
4. In v. 22 Jesus sets the tone for their current understanding of the
law – how?
5. In v 22 Jesus defines ‘murder’ as more than simply physical death, he
describes it as a spiritual murder:
a.List 8 different types of spiritual murder that man can inflict upon
others (you’ll have to carefully think about
the concepts Jesus presents)
6. Read Ephesians 4:26
a. What is good anger
b. What is bad anger
7. The holier we become, the angrier we feel, but how are we to hander the situation (Romans 5:8 & 1 Tim 1:15-16)
a. Where does it say in the Bible "Hate the Sinner, not the sin"
8. The Pharisees would use worship to cover sin and justify actions:
a. V23-24: How do those verses provide a positive course of action?
b. What do Christians do to cover sin?
9. V25-26 Those verses indicate urgency and a 3-party relationship.
a. Who are the involved parties?
b. Why the hurry?
c. Describe the spiritual response needed for each individual.
10. Tough Question: Apply the beatitudes in how we are to handle relationships in light of Jesus examples.
